Beta software updates (Mac and Linux v3.2)

Sunday, March 27, 2016

We are pleased to announce two new beta versions for our Mac and Linux VPN client software. Both of them are very close to being released in stable versions.

Important change in both releases: we added the option to disable DNS assignment on-connect. This could solve some problems experienced earlier with the DNS on connect/disconnect. It is mandatory to use public DNS services and not your next hop via DHCP. Read more about this here: Improvement of DNS security and privacy and why you should never use your ISP DNS.

Find below a list of what's new in these two releases and the download links.

Mac OS X Beta v3.2

- added ability to disable DNS assignment on physical network adapters when the VPN is connected
- added ability to minimize software on close. It is also no longer displayed in the dock when opened
- added "Use alternative servers" checkbox to force displaying of alternative servers
- added "Lower MTU" option which could improve speed and reliability
- multiple low-priority improvements and bug-fixes

Linux Beta v3.2

- It is now available as 64-bit .deb package for Debian-based distros (Debian, Ubuntu, Mint etc.)
- The software will overwrite your /etc/resolv.conf by default to enforce our DNS resolver while connected, and will restore it on disconnect. You may consider disabling this from the Settings tab, but be aware that you must use static DNS resolvers on your physical NIC or else you won't use our resolvers, resulting in DNS leaking issues

Note: The auto-connect on start and launch on system start features are not yet available on Linux and we are working on adding them in the next version, which will probably be the stable release. Please keep an eye on the Roadmap page for updates.
