Mac OS X VPN Client Software released, Windows software updated

Thursday, March 27, 2014

We are pleased to announce the release of our VPN Client Software for Mac OS, an important update for the Windows version and some other news.

VPN Client Software for Mac

  • It is similar to our latest Windows Client Software v 1.1 (screenshot)
  • Provides quick access to all our VPN Nodes, all protocols
  • VPN Nodes list is automatically updated on software start
  • Works on Mac OS X 10.9 and 10.8 (not compatible with earlier 10.6, 10.7 - we will provide an alternative version once it's ready/tested)
You can download it here; (setup instructions)

IMPORTANT NOTES:

In some rare scenarios, such as software crashing/non-clean OpenVPN disconnect, the software may not restore the LAN DNS settings on the Network/Wi-fi interfaces, and our DNS 10.10.40.1 will remain assigned, hence not being able to access the Internet. The solution is to remove it from Network Settings and put back your DNS server, in most cases assigned by DHCP.
To change the DNS server, open System Preferences > Network > select network Interface from left column and click Advanced > open the DNS tab (screenshot)
We will work on finding an easier fix.

The software has been extensively tested on Mac OS X 10.8 and 10.9, and all bugs found during a month of testing have been fixed. However, if you encounter any problems - please let us know right away.

Update for Windows VPN Client Software

  • Added OpenVPN auto-reconnect feature using persistent caching of VPN server’s IP (reconnection should work even when waking-up PC from sleep)
  • Local log file is now erased per session basis instead of being kept indefinitely (it’s important to match our short-term connection log keeping on remote-side)
  • The software zip file includes an IP Leak Protection batch script (also available separately, see below)
You can get the latest Windows client here. Overwriting your existing .exe file with the new one from the zip archive is enough.

IP Leak Protection Script for Windows

  • We created a simple batch script to protect the PC from falling back to unencrypted ISP connection if the VPN connection drops (feature also known as “VPN Kill Switch”)
  • The batch file should work just fine with any VPN software or Windows built-in VPN dialers (PPTP, L2TP). We prefer to provide it as a stand-alone tool, but we will eventually embed its functionality in our Client Software at a later date, as a check box. Please read the instructions first as correct usage requires some good understanding of networking/routing.
  • Versions for Mac and Linux will be available at a later date.
For download and more info, visit the IP Leak Protection page.

Other news

  • We are now assigning a random VPN username by default as an extra-layer of privacy. If you want to change your existing username to a random one (recommended), please open a ticket
  • We implemented many other payment methods (credit cards, prepaid such as Paysafecard and a lot more), displayed as “Other method” in the Checkout process
  • We are about to start working on the VPN Client Software for Android (expected development time: ~2 months). Software clients for Linux and iOS are also planned

We’re looking forward to your feedback, potential bug reporting, feature requests and anything else. We also implemented a simple Feedback/Testimonials page where you can share your experience with us. Thank you in advance.
