We are pleased to announce that our VPN client software for Windows has reached version 3.0. Below are the key features and changes:
(1) VPN drop protection: While this feature has been available with previous releases of our software as a batch script, we implemented it in the software to make it easier to use.
Please make sure you understand how it works before you use it, especially how to restore access to the Internet. In the video tutorial available here you can see a live demo of this feature.
(2) DNS leak protection: DNS leaks are very common with OpenVPN especially if you use DHCP to assign DNS resolvers. We always encouraged our users and will continue to do so, NOT to use DHCP to assign DNS resolvers. Always use static resolvers instead of relying on a VPN software for this purpose. In fact, using 3rd party static resolvers instead of own ISP is a privacy good-practice even if you don't connect to a VPN. The DNS leak protection is enforced automatically by assigning static resolvers on the physical network NICs, they aren't used and once the VPN disconnects, the software will restore the original DNS settings.
(3) Upgrade from BF-128 to AES-128: OpenVPN with Blowfish cipher for data channel, RSA-2048 and SHA1 is no longer supported with our software and it was replaced with AES-128 for data channel, RSA-4096 key authentication and SHA-256 HMAC. We are still supporting Blowfish 128-bit cipher for devices that don't provide support for better encryption (e.g. NAS devices and some routers).
